Poster 204: Changes in Elbow Stress and Ball Velocity During Reduced Effort Pitching: A Marker-Based Motion Capture Analysis

نویسندگان

چکیده

Objectives: Baseball pitchers often participate in throwing programs that involve at reduced effort levels to gradually increase the amount of stress experienced across elbow. It is currently unknown how pitching compares maximum with respect elbow and ball velocity. The purpose this study determine whether velocity correlate pitching, decrease proportionally while a effort, assess intrathrower reliability. Methods: Ten healthy male high school baseball threw 5 pitches from regulation mound 3 levels: 75% 50% effort. Elbow stress, specifically varus torque, was calculated for all using marker-based 3D motion capture system. Ball measured Doppler radar gun. Intrathrower variability each level. Results: decreased throws (p<0.001 p=0.003, respectively). However, reductions were not proportional. At throws, only 19% 10%. 25% 15%. reliability excellent velocity, intraclass correlation coefficients greater than or equal 0.80. Conclusions: Pitching level resulted every reduction perceived by mean 13% 8%. When attempt throw maximum, metrics do proportionately. While decreases proportional, subjecting more intended. This has significant clinical importance pitchers, coaches, medical professionals setting injury prevention return sport. [Table: see text]

The Influence of Elbow Flexion and Arm External Rotation on Peak Elbow Valgus Torque and Ball Velocity in Baseball Pitching

Introduction Elbow injury, especially Ulnar Collateral Ligament (UCL) tear, is very common in baseball pitching. This is often attributed to high valgus torques repetitively stressing the ligament. The goal of this study was to research the effect of Elbow Flexion (EF) and arm External Rotation (ER) angle on Peak Valgus Torque (PVT) as well as ball velocity, using a three-folded approach. Metho...

Changes in shoulder and elbow passive range of motion after pitching in professional baseball players.

BACKGROUND The overhead throwing athlete has unique range of motion characteristics of the shoulder and elbow. Numerous theories exist to explain these characteristics; however, the precise cause is not known. Although it is accepted that range of motion is altered, the acute effect of baseball pitching on shoulder and elbow range of motion has not been established. HYPOTHESIS There will be a...

An automated time and hand motion analysis based on planar motion capture extended to a virtual environment

In the context of industrial engineering, the predetermined time systems (PTS) play an important role in workplaces because inefficiencies are found in assembly processes that require manual manipulations. In this study, an approach is proposed with the aim to analyze time and motions in a manual process using a capture motion system embedded to a virtual environment. Capture motion system trac...

Simulation Analysis of the Influenced Motion from Ball Mass and Shape in Baseball Pitching

We call the ideal motion generated under the artificial environment like a computer "artificial proficient motion". This paper reports the simulation analysis for upper limb how influence is given to pitching motion from ball mass and shape by using the new simulation method for generating artificial proficient motion. The most important feature of our simulation method is that there is a mecha...

Elbow Biomechanics of Pitching

BACKGROUND Elbow pain and elbow injuries are common in youth baseball players. It is not clear whether pitching experience and/or age creates biomechanical differences at the elbow and whether these differences place an athlete at greater risk. HYPOTHESES (1) Youth pitchers will have differing elbow kinematics with regard to flexion/extension, internal/external rotation, and pronation/supinat...
